The Bodysnatcher won world titles at light middleweight, middleweight and light heavyweight during an illustrious career that saw him beat fighters of the quality of Donald Curry, Herol Graham and Julian Jackson.
As featured in a recent edition of Boxing News, McCallum spoke about the bitterness he retains about being avoided by the Fabulous Four of the 1980s, particularly Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns.
Watch him explain his reaction to Hagler when the Marvellous one told him he respected him during his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003.
Hearns and Kronk boss Emmanuel Steward are spoken of in similarly disparaging terms.

Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams is the latest fighter to be mooted as Oscar De La Hoya’s last fight opponent, in what appears to be a warning to Manny Pacquiao’s team to take the 30 percent share offered to them for a meeting with the Golden Boy on December 6.
Williams (34-1, 25 KOs) is the WBO welterweight champion and holds a victory over Antonio Margarito, who after his punishing stoppage of Miguel Angel Cotto is many fans’ choice to meet De La Hoya.
Margarito is not being considered but, according to Golden Boy Vice President Eric Gomez, Williams is in the frame.
“Paul Williams name has come up and we’re definitely thinking of a match between him and Oscar,” Gomez told the Sweet Science website.

Degale who earned selection in Britain’s middleweight division ahead of two-time ABA champion George Groves, battled to a 16-14 victory over Cuban Emilio Correa in the final, despite claiming he was bitten by his experienced opponent in the final.
The 22-year-old boxer from Harlesden is set to receive a slew of offers from professional promoters now and seems certain to join the paid ranks.
“In my fights I’ve shown bits of what I can do but there’s probably 40 per cent left,” Degale said.

The victory earned the host nation its 50th gold medal of the games.
Zou had a 1-0 lead after a tentative first round Sunday, but the Mongolian coach literally threw in the towel just 19 seconds into the second.

BEIJING — Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine won the featherweight boxing gold medal, capping a spectacular run through the Beijing Olympics with a first-round stoppage of France’s Khedafi Djelkhir.
Lomachenko beat his five opponents by an astonishing 58-13 on the way to his first gold medal, battering every foe with quick hands and relentless aggression.
The referee mercifully stopped his title bout Saturday against the overmatched Djelkhir with nine seconds left in the opening round. Djelkhir already had endured three standing-eight counts after getting stunned by repeated head blows.

BERLIN — Vitali Klitschko’s long-awaited comeback against WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter will take place in Berlin on Oct. 11.
The title fight will be Klitschko’s first since he announced his comeback from injuries last year.
The venue and the date were announced Friday by RTL television, the broadcaster of the fight in Germany. It will take place in the new 02 World arena, with a capacity of 13,000.
The two fighters’ camps reached a deal on the fight in May.
Klitschko, the 37-year-old older brother of IBF and WBO heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko, was entitled to a fight with Peter because the WBC selected him its “interim champion” nearly four years ago when he first left the sport with a series of injuries.
“Samuel Peter is an exceptionally dangerous puncher who has already beaten some worthy opponents,” Klitschko said in a statement.

BEIJING — One measly bronze medal is all the U.S. has to show for these Games, its worst performance ever.
Deontay Wilder was the lone recipient. It was his consolation prize after being outclassed and outpointed by amateur heavyweight world champion Clemente Russo of Italy in the semifinals.
“To be here and win a medal is great,” Wilder said. “I’m not a guy to complain. I’ll get back in the gym to work and get better.”
The Americans won only one medal in 1948, too, but that was a silver.
Russo will meet Rakhim Chakhkiev of Russia.

BEIJING — Britain’s James DeGale extended an impressive run by easily outpointing Irishman Darren Sutherland 10-3 on Friday to advance to the middleweight final of the Olympic boxing competition.
DeGale, who had scored the biggest upset so far by ousting Kazakh Bakhtiyar Artayev, the welterweight champion from the 2004 Athens Games, in the previous round, was far too clever for Sutherland.
The Briton stepped up a gear after a cautious start and took control in the third round, displaying superior hand speed and accuracy to move 8-5 up.
Sutherland kept marching forward in the fourth round but his opponent proved an elusive target. (Read the full post about ‘Britain’s DeGale through to middleweight final’…)
